School safety patrols are trained student volunteers who help make school arrival and dismissal safer by directing pedestrians and promoting safety rules. Their duties include supervising student crossings, assisting with bus drop-off and pick-up, monitoring hallways, and teaching younger students about traffic safety.  Deputy Stocker, Mrs. Eddington (our elementary student council supervisor) and Mrs. Bethard have been working with our elementary student council members. Pictured are William Kernell, Deputy Stocker and Eli Kernell.

The 8th grade Academic Challenge participated in the Huron County meet today (Thursday) for the last time in their middle school careers. The 8th grade Roughriders finished in 4th place and dominated the miscellaneous category of “Pop Culture” answering 3 of the 5 questions correctly. While scoring points for the Riders was difficult and the competition was tough again today, our students showed resilience and a positive attitude. It has been my (Mr.R) pleasure to work with this group of students over the past 3 years. I will miss their smiles and conversations in our after school practices. After a hard day of teaching for me and them learning in the classroom, it was always refreshing to interact with these students in this atmosphere that they chose to participate in. The students deserve to be commended and congratulated on their efforts along with all the practice time spent in the after school practices. The 7th grade Academic Challenge team made the short trip today (Wednesday) to compete against 6 other Huron County schools today (Veteran’s Day) at Milestone Event Center. The academic minded Rough Riders consistently answered questions through their 4 rounds but could not find the big number in one of the rounds to push their score to the top. It was another day of tough competition with the front runners going on 4 to 5 question runs. Our 7th graders needed one of those runs but did not find the buzzer rhythm to steal questions with their correct answers. The team finished with 22 points and 4th place, 4 points away from the hardware and 5 points out of second. This was a very competitive meet and these 6 students were all engaged and assertive in their attempts to come up with correct responses. This group vastly improved their showing from last year and gave it their all today. The students deserve to be commended and congratulated on their efforts along with all the practice time spent in the after school practices. The 6th grade Academic Challenge team competed against six other Huron County schools today (Veteran’s Day) at Milestone Event Center in Norwalk. The young studious Roughriders battled valiantly in the contest and exhibited teamwork and spirited answers. The team won one of their 4 rounds with 8 points but ultimately a low score in another round was the difference for our WR 6th graders. The team finished with 21 points and 4th place, 2 points away from the hardware and 4 points out of second. This was a very competitive meet and these students exemplified hardwork, teamwork and giving it their all in this academic affair. The students deserve to be commended and congratulated on their efforts along with all the practice time spent in the after school practices.
