Western Reserve Local Schools News

As summer winds down, our staff and maintenance teams have been hard at work getting our facilities, programs, and technology ready for the return of our students. We are energized, excited, and fully prepared to welcome everyone back for another year of growth and success!

Here is a summary of facility upgrades, new programs, and key procedural updates for the upcoming school year.

Over the summer, our maintenance team tackled several major projects to ensure a clean, comfortable, and safe learning environment:

  • Major Upgrades: A brandnew roof on the fieldhouse and a new chiller at the elementary building.

  • Fresh Look: Refurbished floors and fresh coats of paint across our buildings.

  • Deep Cleaning: Every classroom and restroom received a comprehensive deep clean.

We are also thrilled to announce the official opening of The Studio at WR for our middle and high school students this Preparing for a Strong School Year upcoming year! This new space will offer fantastic hands-on learning opportunities.

Meal Changes

Great news for family budgets! The district applied and was approved for a special U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) program for healthy school meals.

  • No Charge Meals: All enrolled students can receive both breakfast and lunch at no charge every school day.

  • No Income Applications Needed: Parents do not need to submit free and reducedprice income eligibility applications this year.

  • Other Financial Assistance: If you need financial assistance for other expenditures, please complete the State and Federal Financial Assistance tab in FinalForms.

  • A La Carte & Extras: Specialty items, snacks, and extra milk do not qualify under this program and will still cost money.

  • Leftover Account Balances: Funds remaining from last year can be used for a la carte items or transferred toward your child’s student fees. To request a balance transfer to student fees, simply contact your building secretary.

Enhanced Visitor & Student Attendance Procedures

To further strengthen security and streamline daily operations, the district is incorporating a new visitor management platform this year:

  • Driver’s Licenses Required: Parents, guardians, and emergency contacts will need to present their driver’s license to sign students in or out of the building.

  • Attendance Alerts: Parents will now receive direct notifications through this platform for any late arrivals or early dismissals.

Staying Connected: Transition to Rooms

As previously communicated, our former communication platform, Remind, is no longer in use. We have fully transitioned to Rooms, located right inside the Western Reserve Local Schools app. If you haven’t set up your account, please follow the steps outlined in this paper. Parents are also still welcome to contact school personnel via traditional phone calls and emails anytime!

If you have questions about any of these updates, please don’t hesitate to reach out to your building administrator, Mr. Snyder, or myself.

Enjoy the rest of your summer—we are ready and excited to partner with you to help your children thrive this year!
