WR Roughriders, Weston Tite and Mark Starkey, were honored with Buckeye Big Buck Club Recognition
Weston Tite, Western Reserve Middle School student, and Mr. Mark Starkey, Western Reserve Agricultural Educator, both of rural Wakeman, were recognized and inducted into the prestigious Buckeye Big Buck Club Organization on February 17, 2024 at the Ashland University Convocation Center. Weston Tite, son of Tracy Tite and Kenneth Webb II and Mark Langkilde, harvested a qualifying whitetail deer with a straight walled rifle during the 2022 Youth Season. Tite’s qualifying buck scored an amazing 143 2/8”, as measured by the Boone and Crockett scoring system. Starkey, an Agricultural Education instructor at Western Reserve, harvested his qualifying buck with a longbow during the 2022 Archery season. Starkey’s qualifying buck scored 149 3/8”. Both deer were harvested in Huron County within a few miles of each other. For Weston Tite, this was his first deer ever harvested.
The Buckeye Big Buck Club Organization’s purpose is to increase the appreciation of Ohio's whitetail deer herd, which due to a comprehensive and successful management program of the Division of Wildlife, and improved habitat, is now at a record high level. The club’s goals are to: encourage trophy hunting by Ohio hunters, establish and maintain a permanent record of Ohio's trophy deer taken through fair chase methods, foster wise management of this valuable resource, and promote a positive relationship among hunters and landowners.
Each year the club honors hunters who harvest "typical" deer which meet the minimum 140 inch scoring requirement and "non-typical" deer meeting a minimum 160 inch score requirement. Scores are determined by a series of comprehensive measurements using the Boone and Crockett scoring system. The Buckeye Big Buck Club wishes to congratulate both Tite and Starkey for their accomplishments!
