"Making Middle Grades Work"

"Making Middle Grades work" is a program that plans to improve the academic achievement of all middle school students to the Basic level with more of them performing at the Proficient level. These levels are defined and measured by the National Assessment of Educational Progress, or NAEP.

Below are four ways the program hopes to accomplish their goal.

  1. All students learn a rigorous core curriculum of mathematics, reading across content areas, English/language arts, Science, and Social Studies.

  2. Students are taught by highly qualified teachers who hold a content major or minor in the subject or subjects they teach.

  3. Teachers engage students through relevant, hands-on materials and activities.

  4. All Students leave eighth grade prepared for a challenging and accelerated high school curriculum.
