May Board Minutes
The Western Reserve Board of Education met in regular session at 7:30 p.m. on May 17, 2007, in the high school library. Mrs. Fannin called the meeting to order. The following members responded to roll call: Mrs. Fannin, Mr. Boose, Mrs. Pickett, Mr. Todd, Superintendent Donald Barnes, and Treasurer Brett Robson. Mr. Daniels was absent.
Mrs. Pickett moved, seconded by Mr. Todd, the Board approve the agenda and supplemental agenda as presented.

Mr. Boose moved, seconded by Mrs. Pickett, the Board approve the minutes from the regular meeting held on April 18, 2007, as presented.

The Board held public discussion with numerous residents, parents, students, and staff regarding the current financial situation facing the district, the planned organizational structure changes to be further defined for implementation with the 2007-2008 school year, and the associated staffing level changes.
Mr. Boose moved, seconded by Mr. Todd, the Board approve the elimination of the following positions, effective July 13, 2007, pursuant to the WREA Collective Bargaining Agreement and ORC 3319.17 due to financial reasons: 2.5 FTE Language Arts (7-12), 1.0 FTE Science (7-12), 1.0 FTE Math (7-12), 1.0 FTE Social Studies (7-12), 1.0 FTE Tech Prep (7-12), 1.0 FTE FCCLA (7-12), 1.0 FTE Health/Phys. Ed (7-12), 3.0 FTE Elementary teaching positions (K-6), 0.50 FTE Music (K-6), 1.0 FTE Librarian (K-12), 1.0 Special Education (K-12).

Mr. Todd moved, seconded by Mrs. Pickett, the Board approve the elimination of the following positions, effective July 13, 2007, pursuant to the OAPSE Collective Bargaining Agreement and ORC 3319.172 due to financial reasons: 1.50 FTE Secretaries (K-12), 3.0 Aides (K-12).

Mr. Todd moved, seconded by Mrs. Pickett, the Board approve the following certified personnel be reduced in force (RIF), effective July 13, 2007. Personnel are to be placed on a recall list in accordance with the WREA Collective Bargaining Agreement. The Treasurer and Superintendent are hereby directed to take any and all actions to institute the Reduction in Force so as to be in compliance with Ohio Law and the WREA Collective Bargaining Agreement: Nan Link, Jan Jump, Aaron Mochon, Jeff Little, Amy Feliciano, Valarie Miller, Eric Dodd, Jack Underwood, Sarah Boss, Debra Strayer, Dolores Conklin, Molly Meyers.

Mr. Todd moved, seconded by Mrs. Pickett, the Board approve the following non-certified personnel to be layed-off, effective July 13, 2007. Personnel are to be placed on a recall list in accordance with the OAPSE Collective Bargaining Agreement. The Treasurer and Superintendent are hereby directed to take any and all actions to institute the lay-offs so as to be in compliance with Ohio Law and the OAPSE Collective Bargaining Agreement: Cathy Zuk, Tania Chafin, Jennifer Nolan, Deonna Bethard, Daneile Cantrill.
