April Board Minutes

The Western Reserve Board of Education met in regular session at 7:30 p.m. on April 19, 2006, in the high school library.  The following members responded to roll call:  Mrs. Fannin, Mr. Todd, Mrs. Pickett, Mr. Daniels, Mr. Boose, Superintendent Max Shoff, and Treasurer Brett Robson. 

Mr. Boose moved, seconded by Mrs. Pickett, the Board approve the agenda and the supplemental agenda.

Mr. Boose moved, seconded by Mr. Todd, the Board approve the minutes of the March 14^th, 2006 special meeting.

Mr. Daniels moved, seconded by Mrs. Pickett, the Board approve the minutes of the March 15^th, 2006 regular meeting.

Mr. Daniels moved, seconded by Mrs. Pickett, the Board approve the minutes of the March 23^rd, 2006 special meeting.

Mr. Boose moved, seconded by Mr. Todd, the Board approve the minutes of the March 29^th, 2006 special meeting.

Mr. Todd moved, seconded by Mr. Daniels, the Board approve the financial reports for March, 2006.

Mr. Boose – yes, Mrs. Pickett – yes, Mr. Daniels – yes, Mr. Todd – yes, Mrs. Fannin – yes.

Mr. Boose moved, seconded by Mr. Todd, the Board accept the following donations:  $35 from Vern Everts to the elementary library, and $100 from Vanessa Mitchell to the elementary cafeteria fund.

Mr. Boose – yes, Mrs. Pickett – yes, Mr. Daniels – yes, Mr. Todd – yes, Mrs. Fannin – yes.

Mr. Daniels moved, seconded by Mr. Boose, the Board approve the creation of the Jim and Ann Todd  Scholarship Fund.

Mr. Boose – yes, Mrs. Pickett – yes, Mr. Daniels – yes, Mr. Todd – yes, Mrs. Fannin – yes.

The Board agreed to extend the public participation portion of the meeting an additional five minutes.  Mr. Zimmerman, who had requested in advance to address the Board, requested his time be deferred to Mrs. Scheerer.  Mrs. Blair, Mrs. Scheerer, Miss Blair, and Mrs. Hansberger each addressed the Board concerning the resignation of Mrs. McGue.  Each expressed their strong support of her performance, sharing their positive experiences over the years, and requested the Board not accept her resignation.

Mr. Boose moved, seconded by Mr. Todd, the Board accept the resignation of Shelli McGue for personal reasons, effective August 31, 2006.

Mr. Todd moved, seconded by Mr. Daniels, the Board accept the resignation of Carol Frederick.  Mrs. Frederick will be retiring effective June 6, 2006.

Mr. Daniels moved, seconded by Mr. Todd, the Board approve Kathy Yaussy as VLA instructor effective March 28, 2006.

Mr. Daniels moved, seconded by Mrs. Pickett, the Board re-employ the following certified personnel on a one-year limited contract:  Becky Albright, Mary Lisa Boose, Amy Cull, Drew Davie, Jennifer Dillon, Eric Dodd, Ryan Falknor, Amy Feliciano, Brenda Friend, Kim Harrison, Glenda Jacob, Robert Jennings, Brad Maguth, Shirley Rosenau, Meg Stevens, Rachel Stevens, Laura Tooman, Jack Underwood, Jennifer Wilson, Amanda Woodrum, Andrew Zuk.

Mrs. Pickett moved, seconded by Mr. Daniels, the Board re-employ the following certified personnel on a two-year limited contract:  Scott Emerick, Debbie Froehlich, Toni Gangluff, Christine Harper, Debra Henry, Jan Jump, Ruth Kidney, Jim Klingshirn, Michelle Knittle, John Kuhlman, Nan Link, Robert McDonald, James Metzo, Jason Scherley.

Mr. Boose – yes, Mrs. Pickett – yes, Mr. Daniels – yes, Mr. Todd – yes, Mrs. Fannin – yes.

Mr. Daniels moved, seconded by Mr. Todd, the Board re-employ the following certified personnel on a continuting contract: Stephen Adams, Jennifer Cornelison, Wendy Marett, Brad Perkins, Robert Schwiefert, Mike Stoll, Shannon Thome, Patricia Wilcox.

Mr. Boose – yes, Mrs. Pickett – yes, Mr. Daniels – yes, Mr. Todd – yes, Mrs. Fannin – yes.

Mr. Todd moved, seconded by Mr. Daniels, the Board re-employ Cynthia Linder pending satisfactory completion of all Board requirements, including certification.

Mr. Boose moved, seconded by Mr. Daniels, the Board re-employ the following classified personnel on a two-year contract: Tania Chafin and Jane Takacs.

Mr. Daniels moved, seconded by Mr. Boose, the Board accept the resignation of Jennifer Dillon, effective at the end of her current contract.

Mr. Daniels moved, seconded by Mrs. Pickett, the Board employ Josh Obergas for summer employment, to be used as needed, effective May 1, 2006.

Mr. Daniels moved, seconded by Mr. Boose, the Board approve Scott Ewing as a volunteer baseball coach for the 2005-2006 school year.

Mr. Todd moved, seconded by Mr. Daniels, the Board approve Barbara Webb as a substitute teacher for the remainder of the 2005-2006 school year.

Mr. Boose moved, seconded by Mr. Daniels, the Board approve the purchase of two Thomas Busses from Myers Equipment, total cost $116,056.

Mr. Daniels moved, seconded by Mr. Todd, the Board approve the multi-agreement with EHOESC.

Mr. Todd moved, seconded by Mr. Daniels, the Board approve the multi-agreement with the Lorain County ESC.

Mr. Boose moved, seconded by Mrs. Pickett, the Board enter into executive session at 8:28 p.m. for the discussion of personnel and negotiations.

The Board entered into executive session at 8:28 p.m.

The Board returned from executive session at 10:05 p.m.
